W. Larimer died Jan 16, 1902 aged 63 years Additional Information: Per Floyd Lawrence, flawr84781@peoplepc.com, August 15, 2011: William Wilson Larimer was born in about 1839 in Wabash County, Indiana, per the 1870 US Census, Queen City, Adams County, Iowa and his military records. He was a son of Samuel and Mary Larimer per the 1860 US Census, Queen City, Adams County, Iowa. Samuel sold 262 acres of his land to the developers of Queen City in October 1857. He was named postmaster in 1858. In the 1860s, Queen City had 150 residents with general stores, a drug store, a doctor's office and two hotels. In 1869 a railroad stop was built in Corning, which also became the county seat in 1872. The town shrank over time and in March 1885, what was once Queen City land again fell under private ownership. William served first as Corporal then as Sergeant in Company I, 1st Nebraska Calvary (originally 1st Nebraska Infantry), United States Army, during the Civil War. He mustered in 17 July 1861 in Omaha, Nebraska Territory and was discharged 10 November 1864, same location. He saw service in Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. William married Amanda Merwin in Queen City on 4 July 1867. She was the daughter of Daniel & Mary Jane (Lawrence) Merwin. They had at least two children: Charles, born about 1872 in Kansas; and Mary Maud, born about 14 February 1885, died 26 October 1889.
