Wilbert was living in Tono, Thurston, WA with his parents (Augusta SWANSON and Charles William FRIEND) when he enlisted. Enlisted at Ft. McDowell, CA November 21, 1919. He was in the 16th Ordnance Company. Discharged at Camp Knox, KY August 25, 1921. He returned to Tono, WA and was employed as a miner. About 1935, he took a job with the Olympia Brewing Company and moved his family to Olympia, Thurston, WA.
