Kunkel Sabatelle, age 56, of Laceyville passed away at her home on Friday evening with her family by her side after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Bellingham, Washington on Feb. 5, 1955, the daughter of the late Evart J. and Margaret A. McGirr Jenks. Debbi was a graduate of the Coos Bay High School, class of 1972, in Coos Bay, Ore. After moving from the west coast to the Laceyville area she was employed as clerk and cashier at Carter's Market in Black Walnut, Pa. for over 15 years. She was later employed at Eb's Market in Laceyville for seven years until ill health forced her early retirement. For the past 10 years Debbi has enjoyed showing different breeds of dogs all over the east coast of the United States and in Canada. Earning many champions in that time, she had a distinct honor of having one of her champions a Long Hair Dachshund by the name of Jack entered in the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in February of 2011. Also in her spare time she enjoyed crocheting afghans and especially baby bonnets for the Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit of Geisinger Hospital in Danville, Pa. Debbi attended the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville and was an active member of the Goodwill Fire Company Ladies Auxillary in Laceyville. Surviving is her husband, Richard C. Sabatelle of Laceyville, her children, Malinda and her husband Bradly Fassett of Laceyville, Tiffany and her husband Nolan Robinson of Jenningsville, and Anthony (Tony) and his wife Melissa Kunkle of Laceyville; her grandchildren, Collin Fassett, Daphne Fassett, Parker Robinson, Piper Robinson, Julia, Curtis Kunkle and Chloe Kunkle; also her extended family of stepchildren, Richard Christopher Sabatelle, Carie Sabatelle and her husband Paul Hildbrand, Danielle Sabatelle and friend Josh, and Jessie Sabatelle, and step grandsons, Jack Hildbrand, Tom Hildbrand, Hunter Hildbrand, and Dillen Sabatelle, also a sister, Nancy and her husband Loren Salset of Yakima, Wash.; and three nieces and one nephew. Debbi had three special friends Kathy Nesslein, Linda Morris and Margaret Fassett. Besides her parents, she preceded in death by a sister, Malinda Jenks in June of 1964 and long time friend Donald L. Barth in April of 1998. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the Sheldon Funeral Homes, Main St. Laceyville, with Rev. Thomas Davis of the Braintrim Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Lacey Street Cemetery in Laceyville. Family and friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Goodwill Fire Company Ladies Auxilliary, P.
