Both men were armed,and, it is said, bot started to draw at the asme time, but Lewis was the quicker and fired two shots into Brown at close range before Brown coul dpull his gun. Marshal Engle, of Oakesdale, arrested Lewis and started with a gaurd ot bring him to Colfax. There was considerable talk of an attempt to lynch Lewis, and Mayor Hutchinson, of Oakesdale,telephoned Sheriff Canutt, who drove out, met the gaurds and brought Lewis to Colfax. He is in jail, but on the advice of his attorney refuses to talk. Lewis is 37 years old and has a wife and thre daughters, the youngest 3 weeks old.
