News clipping / source unknown Presumed Adams County Times About 200 friends and relatives turned out Sunday to help Mrs. Clark Beals celebrate her 85th birthday. A picnic dinner was held in the park and friends gathered from far and near to be with her. Her four living children were present, Elizabeth of Milwaukee, Elmer of Fond du Lac, Nellie of Wisconsin Dells and Rachel of Oxford. Edwin Fenner, her grandson of Manitowoc and other grandchildren and great grandchildren; her sister Annie of Merrillan, Wis.; and brother George of Oxford were also present. Annie is 84, George 82, and Mrs. Beals 85. Mrs. Beals was one of the spryest ones at the picnic, one couldn't keep track of her for long. She was everywhere shaking hands with old friends, patting youngsters on the head and joking with them all. She was heard to say to one of her little boys, grown up, whom she hadn't seen since he reached manhood, "Hello, Charlie, want a cookie?" It seems Charlie could always get cookies from his Aunt Ellie. Mrs. Della Cavanaugh of Friendship, who has been a life long friend of Mrs. Beals was also present. They were neighbors when they were younger and they recalled many memories much to the amusement of their children. Six beautiful birthday cakes were presented to her. The table was decorated with flowers and a happy birthday table cloth. She was presented with many lovely gifts. Among the out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Heinke and daughter and her family, Mrs. Frank Janke of Westfield, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Cavanaugh of Adams, Mrs. Della Cavanaugh of Friendship, Mr. and Mrs. C. Nelson and family of Brooks, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Werner of Niellsville. All reported a very happy time and wished Mrs. Beals many happy returns of the day.
