Died, at his home in the town of New Chester, January 18, 1901, Horace
ATKINS at the age of 84 years.

Horace ATKINS was born in Erie County, Pennsylvania July 23, 1816, where
his boyhood days were spent. October 28, 1841, he united in marriage with
Miss Lucy BABCOCK of the same place.

In 1845 he moved with his family to Dane county in this state where he made
his home for about ten years, and then came to Adams County, and settled on
a farm now owned by Mr. Fred. THOMM. The house erected by Mr. ATKINS, and
which stood as a landmark for many years, was situated about thirty rods
east of the present residence of Mr. THOMM, was removed some forty years
ago. It was one of the first buildings erected at or near Friendship, and
Mr. ATKINS and his family were among the very first settlers in this
vicinity.

In 1859 Mr. ATKINS sold his interests near Friendship, and removed to the
town of New Chester, where he resided until his decease.

In all the relations of life Mr. ATKINS exhibited most exemplary qualities.
In his business and social life he was the very soul of honor. His word was
above doubt or questioning. Such qualities won him the respect and
confidence of all.

The deceased left surviving him an aged wife and three children--two sons,
Elroy and Arthur of New Chester, and a daughter, Mrs. Nellie WOODARD of
Oxford, besides many grandchildren.

The funeral services were held at the Pleasant Prairie schoolhouse, Rev. A.
J. Pierson officiating.
