Mary J. Hay Bacon was born at Nunda, Livingston County, New York, Aug. 09,
1831, and after a short illness of pneumonia, died at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. A. E. Richardson, of this city, April 18, 1914.

On November 09, 1848 she was married to Volney Bacon of the town of Grove,
Allegany County, New York. To this union five children were born, four of
whom are yet living: Mrs. J. W. Cummings of White Creek, Wisc.; Mrs. A. D.
Billings, of Delavan, Wisc.; C. E. Bacon of Aberdeen, Idaho; and Mrs. A. E.
Richardson, of this city, with whom she was living at the time of her
death.

Mr. and Mrs. Bacon moved to Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin, in 1850
and in 1856 they moved to Twin Valley, Adams County, Wisconsin, where they
made their home until her husband’s death, July 5, 1882. Some years later
she sold the home farm and has since made her home among her children, all
of whom were with her in her last illness, except for her son Elmer, who is
in Idaho. One son, George M., died in the year 1873 at the age of 21 years.

The deceased was a kind and loving wife and mother, always ready to do some
kind deeds for her family, friends and neighbors. No task was too hard for
her to undertake.

Besides her children, she leaves to mourn, one sister, Mrs. Julia Reebe of
Hernick, Iowa, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and
a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held at the home in this city on Monday April 20, at
4:30 p.m., after which her body was taken to Adams County on Tuesday
morning, where funeral services were again held at 11:00 a.m., conducted by
Rev. Ferguson of Kilbourn City, and laid to rest beside those of her
husband and son [in Olin Cemetery].
