Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 31, for Mrs. Eli Beals, 73, Brooks. The rites were held at the New Chester Congregational church with Rev. William King officiating. Internment was made in New Chester Cemetery. Pallbearers were Cliff Huber, Edward Huber, Frank Janke, Robert Ellinger Donald Parks and Hugh McGowan. Mrs. Beals passed away Monday, July 29, at Adams County Memorial Hospital where she had been for 13 weeks for a heart condition. Libbie McClyman Belas was born Jan. 13, 1890, in the township of New Chester, Adams county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew McClyman. She married Eli Beals in 1908 at New Chester and six children were born to this union. For 16 years Mrs. Beals was postmistress at Brooks and was with the Brooks Telephone Exchange for 34 years. She had spent her whole life in Adams county. She leaves to mourn her husband, Eli; four daughters, Mrs. Cecil Elliott, Mrs. Lucy Hamilton, Ocford, Mrs. Ollie Nelson, Arena, Mrs. Erma Luebke, Dellwood; two sons, Clinton (Jim( Beals, Janesville, and Eli Beals, Oregon; two brothers, Andrew and Wallace McClyman, Oxford, a half-sister, Mrs. Vera Fenner, Friendship; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. She was preceeded in death by a brother, Mac McClyman, two half-brothers, Carl and Frank Bloss, and a half-sister, Mabel Zimbeck.
