Bean At the residence of her sister, Mrs. William FAIRFIELD, in the town of Easton January 28, 1903, Mrs. Hannah S. BEAN, widow of the late Adriel BEAN of Fordham, aged about 80 years. Mrs. BEAN, whose maiden name was SANBORN, was among the very earliest pioneers in this section of the state. She was closely associated with the McCARTNEY family that way back in the early 50's settled at the crossing of the Big Roche-a-Cris in the town of Preston, where the old "tote road" from Portage to Grand Rapids crossed that stream, and for some years made her home with that family at that place. About 1857 or 1858 she was married to Adriel BEAN and soon after she and her husband made their home in Fordham, where they erected a hotel building and maintained a hotel for many years and until his decease, and which stands as one of the ancient landmarks of the time. Since the death of her husband she has principally made her home with her sister at whose residence she died. In all the relations of life Mrs. BEAN was a most exemplary woman. The sick and suffering were ever the objects of her tenderest sympathy and care. She leaves surviving her three brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held Thursday. A short service was held at the residence of Mr. FAIRFIELD in Easton, after which the remains were brought to Friendship, where services were held in the Congregational church. Interment was in Fordham cemetery.
