Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: Irwin S. BERRY ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Friendship Reporter, Thursday September 18, 1919, P1 The sudden death of I. S. BERRY at his home in Kilbourn, September 1, was a startling event to Kilbourn and vicinity. He had been around town even to the last day, in apparently normal health. Though for several days he had been suffering from throat trouble, and at times manifesting a tendency to attacks of weakness, even his own family had no suspicions of such a result. He had suffered in the night from the throat trouble, and Mrs. Berry had been trying to relive him. Sitting in an easy chair, he finally said he felt easier then and insisted on his wife lying down. After a short time Mrs. Berry went to him again and found that he had passed from an easy sleep into the sleep of death. Mr. BERRY had for half a century been a resident of this locality, owning one of the finest farms in this section, about two miles from Kilbourn. About twenty-five years ago the family began entertaining summer visitors, the farm being situated near the river at Coldwater Canyon. This business had grown to one of the most popular summer resort hotels in the Dells. Thus had his genteel nature, his congenial character extended his acquaintance to an admiring degree among people over a large area of country. Mr. BERRY was a Christian gentleman, a man whose religion never failed to bear the test of everyday associations. He had been a member of the Presbyterian church at Kilbourn most of his mature life, an officer and an elder for more than thirty years. In all of that time he has held the highest place in the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. About four years ago he and his wife built a home in Kilbourn, leaving the active management of the hotel business to their son Clinton and his wife. Mr. BERRY was born in Groton, New York, October 8, 1846. September 11, 1871 he married Miss Anna JOHNSON who survives him. He also leaves three sons, Stuart and Clinton of Kilbourn, Fay of Chicago, and one daughter, Miss Winifred BERRY of Chicago. ---Kilbourn Events
