Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: Ann CRUTHERS ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Adams County Press, Saturday Nov 8, 1890, Page 4 DIED--CRUTHERS--Mrs. Ann CRUTHERS, wife of James CRUTHERS, at his home in the Town of Jackson, October 16th, 1890, aged 69 (?blurry) years, 4 months and 13 days. The deceased was born in the Island of Jersey, where the first nine years of her life were spent. Her father then moved with his family to Ireland, where in April 1840 she was married to him who has been her life's companion to the close. The week after their marriage, they sailed for America, residing sixteen years in the provice of Quebec, Canada. Then, in 1858, located at their home on the beautiful Jordan, a picturesque lake, clear, broad and deep--a fitting emblem of her departed life. With un- assuming dignoty she presided over her household, blessed woth eight children, all of whom show happy results of faithful maternal training, fulfilling Solomon's assertion "Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her." Her early church relationship was Episcopalian, but for the last thirty-one years her name has honored the roll of the Oxford Presbyterian church. The funeral services were held at her late residence Sunday October 19th, conducted by Revs. Wilson and Bain, while every arrangement was most fittingly presided over by John Graham. The exceptionally large gathering of neighbors--many from a distance--together with the depth of feeling expressed, testify to the universal appreciation of her life and character fittingly revealed in the funeral text, Rev. 14:13. Sorely do the family, the church and the community feel this our great loss, yet with Christian resignation look forward to a happy reunion beyond the swelling Jordan.
