Angeline CUMMINGS, 1823-1904

Mrs. Angeline CUMMINGS died at the home of her son, Joseph, in the Town of
Springville, July 10, 1904, of paralysis, aged 81 years, 5 months.

Angeline OAKES was born in Greenbush, Maine, 08 February 1823. In 1841, she
was united in marriage with Joseph B. CUMMINGS, and in 1845 they came west,
settling first in Dane county, this state, and in 1849, removed to the town
of Springville, Adams county, where she has since resided.

In their settling in the county at that early day, the year that Wisconsin
was admitted to the statehood, all the trials and troubles incident to a
pioneer life must have been met and cheerfully endured. Coming when
settlers were few and convenience scarce, they have watched the town's
development from a virgin state, to one of pleasant homes and fine farms.
Great must have been the satisfaction to her in her declining years to look
back upon all the changing vicissitudes of that well spent life, to see the
children, that she had reared occupying leading positions of trust and
honor in the community, to be surrounded by kind and loving friends of a
lifetime...

To Mr. and Mrs. CUMMINGS seven children were born, four of whom have
preceeded her to the other shore, along with her husband, the children
being: Samuel T., Albert F., Theodore R. and Mrs. Josephine EVANS. Three
children, Norman of Kilbourn, Joseph W. and Mrs. Maria WEBSTER of
Springville survive.

Mrs. CUMMINGS is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Levi
OAKES of Necedah, Edward OAKES of Viroqua, Albert OAKES of Worcester,
Massachusetts, Henry OAKES of South Dakota, George OAKES of Plainville,
Mrs. John DOUGLAS of Marble, and Mrs. Eunice SMITH of Grafton,
Massachusetts.

Funeral services were held at Point Bluff, Tuesday, July 12, with Reverend
Brenneman of Kilbourn officiating. The interment was in the town-line
cemetery, with a large cortege following the remians to their final resting
place.
