Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: William A. DAVIS ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Adams Co Press, 01 October 1870 Page 3, Column 3 On the 12th of September last William A. Davis, at the ripe age of seventy four years, died at his residence at Davis Corners, in the town of Jackson, in this county. Mr. Davis came to Wisconsin in 1847 from Utica, Michigan, and first settled in the village of Spring Prairie, Walworth county, Wisconsin, where he resided two years. In 1849 he removed to Adams county and settled what is now Davis' Corners, at which place he continued to reside until he died. In all the relations fo life Mr. Davis bore an unblemished reputation, and fully exemplified the character of "God's noblest work, an honest man." A man of strong convictions, deep affection and kindly impulses he drew to himself the esteem and affection of a large circle of friends and gained the respect of all. In 1843, he lost his wife, a kind, affectionate, devoted woman, and the bereavement cast its shadow over the remainder of his life. Cherishing her memory to the end, his earnest, often expressed desire was that when it should be his turn to pass away his remains might be laid to rest beside her's whose memory was so dear to him , and his wish will be complied with. Peacefully, he passed away. A good man, ripe in years, rich in the affection and respect of his family and a large circle of friends, his allotted earthly task accomplished, has gone to his rest. "Blessed be the dead that die in the Lord; yea saith the Spirit, for they rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
