Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: Lydia DEMOTT ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Adams County Press, Saturday Sept 26, 1903 Lydia FINEL was born Nov 21st, 1845, in Columbiana County, Ohio, and died Sept 12, 1903 at her home in Adams county. In 1847 she moved with her parents to Dodge County, Wis., and again in 1855 to Adams Co. Dec 15, 1861, she was joined in marriage to Samuel DeMOTT, who survives her, along with two daughters, Mrs. F. E. CRANE and Mrs. R. E. McMAHON, one granddaughter, Mrs. F. L. WALDO, and one grandson, little Sammie. Mrs. DeMOTT was taken sick in May, but her condition was not considered dangerous until within a few weeks previous to her death. All that medical skill and kind hearts and hands could do, was done to save her life, but of no avail. She quietly passed away Sept. 12. The funeral services were held at the New Chester church on Sunday, conducted by Rev. Taylor of Westfield. The Westfield Choir furnished the singing. The funeral was the largest ever held in this place, over 140 teams following her remains from her home to the church, where a large number had already gathered. The casket was covered with flowers, tokens of esteem from kind friends. Mrs. DeMOTT was a true and loving wife, a kind and affectionate mother and a kind and thoughtful neighbor. Her whole aim in life seemed to be planning the comfort of others. She was always ready to help in time of sickness or sorrow and always had a kind word of encouragement. Truly, hers was a life well spent. Her mother has been dead a number of years. Her father died about five years ago. During the last few years of his life he made his home with her and was most tenderly cared for. Mrs. DeMOTT is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emma BENEDICT of Salem, Oregon, and Mrs. Sally BAKER of Lafayette, Oregon; three brothers, Almond FINEL of Park, Kansas; Edward FINEL of Armenia, Wisconsin and Thomas FINEL of Maud, Washington; besides a number of other relatives and a very large circle of friends. The family has the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
