Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: Chester GRAY ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Coloma News, October 1, 1920, Page 1 [a photo accompanied this obit] Chester Gray was born in Great Bend, Susquehanna Co., Pa., on March 28, 1835, where he lived until about 19 years of age. In 1854 he, with his parents and three brothers, came to Wisconsin, locating in the town of Richfield, Adams county. On December 28, 1858, he was united in marriage with Eretta Dimick. They settled on a farm just east of Coloma Corners, where their four children were born: Royal, who died in infancy, Mrs. Nina Caves, of Hancock, and twin boys, Walter J. and Willard F., of Coloma. In 1883 they sold their farm and moved to Coloma Corners, where they built a new house. His wife passed away April 7, 1909, after which his son Willie and family moved in to keep up the old home. Mr. Gray was a charter member of the Congregational Church at Coloma, and was always an efficient worker and faithful attendant at all church services until last May, when he fell and hurt his hip, injuring the sciatic nerve. Since then he was confined to the house, gradually failing in health till death occurred Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1920. The news of his death was received with profound sorrow wherever he was known. Funeral services were held in the Coloma Congregational Church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. A. W. Cook, officiating. The remains were laid at rest by the side of those of his wife in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Deceased leaves to mourn his death one daughter and two sons, before mentioned; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and six nieces.
