Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: Courtland A. HAMILTON ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Adams County Press, Saturday March 31, 1883 P6C3 DIED--HAMILTON--At his residence at Point Bluff, Wisconsin March 21, 1883, Courtland A. HAMILTON, in the 44th year of his age. Courtland A. HAMILTON was born in Eaton, Madison county, New York on the first day of May, 1839, and at the time of his death lacked one month and eight days from being forty-four years old. We are not able to state the time when Mr. HAMILTON first came to Wisconsin. A few years ago he settled at Point Bluff. For some years he engaged in teaching schools in this state and in Illinois, and with excellent success. In 1881 he was elected to the office of Superintendent of Schools of this county, and discharged his duties with intelligence and fidelity. In the community in which he lived he was highly respected and beloved. His social qualities greatly endeared him to a large circle of friends and in his family he was most affectionate and devoted. The funeral took place at White Creek on Friday, the 25th, and was very largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. J. H. McChesney, assisted by Rev. P. R. Staples. The sermon by Rev. McChesney was a fitting one for the occasion, and a worthy tribute to the memory of the deceased.
