The people of Friendship were sadly surprised on Saturday evening by a
telegram announcing the death of the late Judge Jerome B. HARRISON, which
occurred on the previous day, near Box Butte, Nebraska.

Mr. HARRISON was born in Friendship, Alleganey County, New York, May 22nd,
1826, and therefore, had just entered the 63rd year of his age at the time
of his decease.

He was married to Miss Sarah STOWELL, at Friendship, New York, by whom he
had several children, four of whom, three sons and a daughter, survive him.
The surviving children are, Herbert E. HARRISON, of Knights' Landing,
California, Robert and Carl HARRISON and Mrs. Lola FRYETT, of Box Butte,
Nebraska.

In the fall of 1862 the deceased moved his family to Wisconsin and settled
in Friendship. From that time forward until the spring of 188-(no ending
number printed) when he was stricken with a mental malady from which he
never recovered, he was prominently and creditably connected with the
interests of this county. So strong was his hold upon the popular favor
that, although politically astrong Democratic partizan, he was three times
elected to the office of County Judge in a county two-thirds of the voters
Republican in principle. In the discharge of duties arising from that
office, he proved himself capable, sympathetic and incorruptibly honest.

In his family and social relations he was pleasant, affable, courteous and
obliging. Few there are, indeed, who knew him, who do not honor his memory
and sadden with the thought of his death.

The remains of Judge HARRISON, accompanied by his son Robert, reached
Friendship on Tuesdy morning, and in the afternoon of that day, with
Masonic ceremonies, of which order the deceased was a member, were
committed to their final resting place beside those of his wife in Mount
Repose cemetery. A large concourse followed the remains to the grave, and
after the interment, returned to the village where solemn services were
further held in the Congregational church, conducted by Rev. P. R. Staples,
assisted by Elder McChesney.
