Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: Samuel HOWARD ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Friendship Reporter, Thursday March 17, 1921, Page 8 Samuel HOWARD, a pioneer resident of the town of Monroe, died at his home in that town on March 8th, 1921, aged 69 years, 11 months and 2 days. Deceased was born in England on April 6th, 1851, and emigrated to this country when sixteen years of age. On April 14th, 1876, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna BATTLESON of Strongs Prairie, and to them were born five children, John Bert of Arkdale, William of Hancock, Mrs. Caroline HAYS of Hancock, Mrs. Ida BRAUGHT of Kalasua, Washington, and Mrs. Alice ANDERSON of Wisconsin Rapids. Mrs. HOWARD died on March 13th, 1889, Mr. HOWARD was united in marriage with Miss Nellie LAKE and to them were born nine children, Clarence, Glen, Lillian, Hazel, Lena, Emma, Mrs. Grace STONE, Mrs. Edith TUBBS, all of the town of Monroe, and Mrs. Gertrude SQUIRES of Hancock. He is survived by one brother, Thomas, of Hancock, and three sisters, Mrs. Lucy JOHNSON, Mrs. Martha JOHNSON and Lisa HOWARD; and he also leaves to mourn their loss his fourteen children. Deceased was well and favorably known in the town where he has resided for many years, and has served as town treasurer and in other offices. He united with the church in that town about two years ago. The bereaved wife, children and other relatives have the sympathy of the community. Funeral services were held at the Strongs Prairie church, March 12th, conducted by Rev. A. J. Raftshol, and the interment was in the cemetery at that place.
