Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: Chris. A. JARANDBY ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Adams County Press, Volume XXVII Number 40, Saturday March 17, 1888, Page 4 Perished in the Night Adams county has contributed another life as the result of the whiskey traffic at Necedah. A few months ago it was Ferdinand KAMNETZ; this time it is Chris. A. JARANDBY. As we have been able to gather the details attending JARANDBY's death, they appear to be these: He visited Necedah last Saturday, and while there drank heavily. Sometime in the evening, in an intoxicated condition he started to go home. One report says he was accompanied by someone until after he had crossed the Pete-en-Well bridge over the Wisconsin River, and until he was within sight of his own home. However that may be, he never reached home alive. His not reaching home Saturday night caused no uneasiness in the family, as he is said to have often remained absent. Sunday morning, however, some of the family noticed a dark looking object lying on the marsh quite a distance from the house. Little attention was paid to it at first, but later in the day some of the children went down to see what it was. They found their father there, lying on his back upon the snow, with his legs drawn up and his hands locked under the back of his head--dead. He had evidently left the road, attempted to make his way across lots, and apparently overcome by the liquor he had drank, had lain down sometime during the night and perished where he was found. JARANDBY, aside from his drinking habit, was a very good man, and possessed considerable property. He leaves a widow and several children.
