Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: William KEMNITZ ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Adams County Press, Volume XLIII Number 49, Saturday, 09 July 1904, Page 4 William KEMNITZ, who with his family moved from Strong's Prairie, Adams county, to a farm in the town of Springfield, just north of this village, met death by lightning a few minutes before noon Monday. He had just put his team into the barn and was going to the house for dinner when the fatal bolt descended. An 11-year old son saw him fall on his face and exclaimed, "Pa is dead!" Mrs. KEMNITZ at once ran out and turned him over, and then hastened to August FALBE's place nearby, for help. Mr. FALBE and Ludwig SCHUBERT, who happened to be there, returning with her and carrying the stricken man into the house. Dr. FREDRICK was immediately telephoned for and upon his arrival at once pronounced the case one of instant death, the facts being so clear that an inquest was deemed unnecessary. Mr. KEMNITZ was about 36 years of age and an industrious, hard working man. He leaves a wife and five children, the oldest about 11 years of age, in rather poor circumstances, and much sympathy is felt for the unfirtunate family. The funeral was held yesterday at the Springfield church.
