Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: William McCAUSTLAND ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Adams County Press [Friendship, Adams Co., WI], Saturday May 20, 1893, Page 4 DIED: McCAUSTLAND At Quincy, Adams county, Wis., May 12, 1893, William McCAUSTLAND, aged 74 years and 9 months. Deceased was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, and came to the United States forty-one years ago, and lived in New York City and Philadelphia three years. From the latter place he moved to Wisconsin and settled in Quincy in 1855, where he has lived and also died, on the same piece of land on which he first settled in the town. He was deeply attached to his home and farm. He married fifty-five years ago, and leaves a widow but two years younger rhan himself, and too ill and feeble to attend his funeral. They raised a family of seven sons and three daughters--one son and one daughter being dead. Three sons live here, one in Iowa and two in the State of Washington. His two daughters are married and live in Quincy. He was liked by all his neighbors, and all who knew him. He was eminently a peaceful and quiet citizen, who so abhorred the law that he never so much as served on a jury. He was a hard-working man, always at home--never absent a month at one time since he came to this state. The deceased has a brother living in Mauston, Wis., one in California, one in Iowa, one in Oregon, and one still in Ireland. The deceased will be greatly missed by his family and neighbors. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Marden, of White Creek, and the large attendance told of the high esteem of the community for the deceased. The funeral profession was the largest seen in Quincy in years. He will ever be remembered as a kind father, husband, neighbor and friend, and as a good citizen. "Let him rest in peace." ---NEPHEW
