POLIFKA, in the town of Preston, and about a mile east of Fordham, together with a reaper, mower and horse-rake therein, were consumed by fire. All the family, except the old gentleman were absent. The fire originated in a straw stack, and from that communicated to the thatched roof of the barn. At the time the barn caught fire, there were several colts in it, and these the old gentleman succeeded in getting out. He next attempted to save some of the machinery, and while doing so the blazing thatched roof came down upon him, and before he could get out, he was very seriously if not dangerously burned. Dr. McGOWAN is attending the sufferer. From the Adam County Press, June 27, 1885, Page 4 DIED--Mr. James POLIVKA died Sunday morning from effects of his burns sustained a few weeks ago.
