Mr. STOWE was born in Grafton, Worcester county, Massachusetts, Nov 14, 1836. When he was 14 years of age his parents removed to the state of New York, where he resided until 1860, when he settled at Oxford, where he resided up to the time of his death. The active life of Mr. STOWE up to 1886 was passed in farming, at which time he entered upon his duties as hotelkeeper at Oxford. Mr. STOWE was a soldier in the late War of the Rebellion, enlisting at Kilbourn City, Wisconsin, May 7, 1861, in Company D, 4th Wisconsin Infantry, for three years. He was promoted to corporal in 1863, and was discharged February 9, 1865, his term of service having expired. During his service in the War, Mr. STOWE was taken prisoner and was confined to Andersonville prison and in the stockade at Florence. Mr. STOWE was twice married. He was first married to Mary E. GRANT of New York. Four children were born to them. His second marriage to Georgiette CARVY occurred July 11, 1874, and of this union three children were born, one of whom is deceased. Mr. STOWE was a highly respected, upright citizen, and had served on the town board and as town treasurer. He was the owner of the popular G.A.R. hotel at Oxford.
