P. SWARTOUT, one of the old residents and first settlers of Strongs Prairie, quietly passed away April 13th at 2 p.m. Mr. SWARTOUT was born in Duchess county, New York on May 16, 1811, removed from that place to Saratoga county, and was married to Annie TRAVERS in 1845, and removed to Adams County in 1853, where he resided up to the time of his death. He leaves a wife and four children. The children are as follows: Mrs. M. E. CANNING of Burwick, Logan county, Oklahoma; Mrs. J. C. SAUNDERS, Osmond, Pierce county, Nebraska; Chauncey SWARTOUT, Necedah, Wisconsin, and Alfred SWARTOUT, Strongs Prairie, Wisconsin. The deceased was a man of remarkable energy for one nearly 83. He was a good husband and father, and as many know, was always ready to oblige his neighbors, and do whatever he could to life the burden of others; one who would never turn a hungry man away now leave a beggar in the ditch.
