This time it was an aged father he gathered to himself. Gilbert VanKUREN was born in the town of Virgil, Courtland county, New York, on April 2nd, 1817. He was married to Miss Phoebe J. MORSE about 1839. They continued to live in Courtland county, New York until about 1850, when they moved to what was then considered to be the far west, Belvidere, Illinois. From here they moved to Westfield, Marquette county, and then to Strongs Prairie, where they made their home. Here they have resided for nearly forty years. Their home will long be remembered for its hospitality. He survived his wife about three years. He leaves three daughters: Mrs. O. W. SAUNDERS, Duluth, Minnesota, Mrs. J. W. SHANKS, Strongs Prairie, Wisconsin, and Lucy BABCOCK, Holum, Louisiana.
