Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: James WOODRUFF ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Adams County Press [Friendship, Adams Co., WI], Saturday April 10, 1886, Page 4 Last Monday evening, April 5th, James Woodruff died after having spasms. Appearances indicate he had taken poison, as poison was found in his room after his death, although he denied having done so to the last. Everybody new Jam, as he was called. He had made his home with George Campbell for the last year. A year ago he drove our "daisy of a stage." From a document found among his effects, which is in the style of a will, and dated March 9th, he had premeditated putting an end to his life, as that stated Jam would die one of these times and be forgotten. In this will he bequeathed $5,000 each to Mr. and Mrs. Campbell and their two daughters, and $45,000 for a Town Library, etc. It is evident that he was somewhat demented, as his effects will not much more than meet his funeral expenses.
