DIED--JOSEF WRCHOTA--In Friendship, Friday Feb 15th, 1901, of acute
pneumonia, Josef WRCHOTA (pronounced WARCHOTA), aged 62 years, 11 months
and 12 days.

Josef WRCHOTA was born in Bohemia, March 3, 1838. In 186_, (no ending
digit) he was married to Miss Katie SCHMOCK. In 1861, he emigrated with his
family from the Old country to seek his fortune in the New. They came
direct to Chicago, where they located and resided for fourteen years; then
they removed to Iowa and settled on a farm near Waverly, and on which they
lived until they came to Friendship in the spring of 1899. Here he and his
family have resided since that time.

Mr. WRCHOTA was an industrious, quiet, unostentatious citizen. With many of
the characteristics of his race, it was, nevertheless, his high ambition to
be in all things a true American citizen, loyal to the country of his
adoption and its institutions, and to live honestly and uprightly according
to the light vouchsafed to him. By his industry and frugality he amassed a
comfortable competence.

The funeral was at the Congregational church on Sunday afternoon, and the
number of people attending was greater than the seating capacity the house
could accomodate. The services were conducted by Rev. C. H. Chase, who
delivered one of the most appropriate and effective funeral discourses it
has been our lot ever to have listened to. The remains were laid to rest in
Mount Repose cemetery, a mile west of the village.

The deceased leaves a widow, Mrs. Katie WRCHOTA, and four sons and two
daughters--John of North Dakota, Edward who resides on a farm near
Friendship, Joseph and William who reside now with their mother, Mrs. Mary
BIERIE of Waverly, Iowa, and Christina who resides with her mother.
