Obituary: Adams County, Wisconsin: Mary YORK ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Friendship Reporter, Thursday July 31, 1919, Page 1 Mrs. Frank YORK died at her home in the town of Monroe, on Saturday morning, July 26th, following a lingering illness of dropsy, aged 69 years, 7 months and 6 days. Mary E. COLBY was born at Toppsfield, Maine, December 20th, 1849, and was a daughter of Jonathon and Sarah COLBY. When she was about a year old her parents came west and settled in the Town of Easton. Her girlhood and young womanhood was passed in that place. She was united in marriage with Frank YORK in 1872 and to them were born six sons: Urban H., deceased; Herbert B., deceased; Roy G., at home; Jonathon M., of Saco, Minnesota; Archie H. and Francis L., both of Monroe. Except for about two years, deceased had lived in the towns of Rome and Monroe since her marriage. She was a woman who had many friends and her long residence in those towns made her greatly loved and esteemed by a large circle. For years she had been in delicate health, but bore her sickness with great patience and fortitude. To her husband and sons she gave unstinted love and devotion, and in her home life was ever thoughtful and kind. Besides her husband and sons other near relatives left to mourn are, one sister, Mrs. A. S. WATERMAN of Kilbourn; and three brothers, Warren and Thomas COLBY of Easton and William COLBY of Thorpe. Funeral services were held at the Spring Creek church, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Cook of Hancock, and interment was in the cemetery at that place.
