Lake was born in Indiana, Sept. 12, 1859, and was there married to Emma I. McDonald, who was born in the same state, May 4, 1875. They came to Barron County in the fall of 1885, and purchased 80 acres of wild land in Maple Grove Township. This land they improved and developed, added 60 acres more, and erected good buildings. On this farm, Mr. and Mrs. Lake still live. They are liberal, hospitable people, and are well liked by all their neighbors. In the family there are eight children: Lawrence, a Maple Lake Township farmer; Arvilla, wife of Alfred Cobb, a Maple Lake farmer; Jesse, a Maple Lake farmer; David W., a Barron businessman; Anna, wife of C. W. Olson, of Barron City; Cora, wife of George Raven, of Barron City; Sherman, on the home farm in Maple Lake Township; and Edith, who lives with her parents and brother. --Taken from: History of Barron Co., Wisconsin, H.
