This book was edited by Newton S. Gordon then the editor of the Barron County News-Shield, and compiled by Franklyn Curtiss-Wedge. A prodigious amount of work was required to produce this history. Those who own a copy of this work have a priceless possession. By far most of the material for the first sixty years of the centennial history came from this source. The Historical and Biographical Album of the Chippewa Valley, Wisconsin was edited by George Forrester and published by A. Warner, Chicago, Illinois in April, 1892. A limited amount of material came from this work. In 1901 Orville D. Edgbert published a 68 page booklet of pictures and printed material entitled, Barron County, Wisconsin. This publication furnished some material for our history. Mrs. Charles S. Taylor came to live in Barron in 1876. She used to speak to Barron High School Students once each year on her recollections of early days in Barron. It was our good fortune to have heard her speak once or twice. Fortunately her recollections have been preserved in typewritten form and some of these memories were used in our history. The files of the Barron County News-Shield were searched for some of the history of the past fifty years. Newspaper files are always a very important source of historical items in every community where newspapers have been published. The business meeting records of various organizations have been consulted to get brief histories of those groups. Some of our older citizens have been interviewed for facts which enter into our history during the past sixty years and more. The present day clergymen of our local churches have been very helpful in giving us the predominating items which enter in to each church history. --From the Souvenir Historical Album of the Barron Centennial-1960 (used by permission)
