Owing to a farm auction sale in progress adjacent to the city, the same afternoon, a poultry demonstration meeting at Chetek and bad roads, attendance at the REA meeting this year was not as large as usual. President John E. Olson, presided at the meeting. Following the reading of the minutes by the secretary, Willis Jerome, and the financial statement by Manager Otis G. Berger, three directors were elected to succeed themselves; Andrew Solberg, Zone 7; Tom Archer, Zone 2; and Knut Knutson, Zone 3, for a period of three years. The following resolution was acted upon and adopted: RESOLVED that the Barron County Electric Co-operative make application for membership in the Dairyland Power Co-operative, and RESOLVED, that the president and secretary of the co-operative are hereby authorized, empowered and directed for and on behalf of the co-operative to execute an application for membership in the Dairyland Power co-operative, to pay the membership fee prescribed by its by-laws and to do any and all other things and execute any and all other instruments normally necessary to cause the co-operative to become a duly accepted member of the Dairyland Power co-operative. The Barron County Electric co-operative now has a total of 630 miles of lines constructed and a total connected membership of approximately 2,000. The officers are John E. Olson, president; Knute Knutson, vice president; Willis Jerome, secretary; Nels Nelson, treasurer. The Board of Directors are: John E. Olson, Knute Knutson, Willis Jerome, Nels Nelson, S. A. Carlson, Tom Archer, P. W. Mommson, Christ Bandli, Andrew Solberg. +++++++++++++++++ The Barron Livestock Shipping association will hold its annual meeting Friday, March 20 (1942), at 2 p.m. There will be colored movies and a talk by Professor James Lacey of the College of Agriculture, on the outlook for livestock. Roy Olson of the St. Paul Stock Yards' association and L. A. Madison of the Central Shipping association, and County Agent, I. O. Hembre, will also participate in the program. A lunch will be served following the meeting. "Farmers are going to be required to conserve their time and use of tires. For this meeting we are conbining many things of interest to the livestock men of Barron county in the interest of this economy," says County Agent, I. O. Hembre, and urges all livestock breeders to join with the Barron Shipping Association in this big meeting planned for Friday afternoon, March 20, at 2 o'clock p.m. at the Sales Pavilion. Colored movies taken under the direction of Professor Lacey of the College of Agriculture, will be the feature of the program. ++++++++++++++++++ Because of the government's ban on the sale of automobile tires, refriger- ators, washing machines, etc., the McKenzie Supply and Equipment Store of Barron, located on La Salle street, opposite the courthouse, is forced out of business. Dave McKenzie, owner and manager of the store, has arranged for a closing out sale to start Friday, March 20 (1942), and to continue until his entire stock is disposed of. Present wartime restrictions on sales of its commodities forces the store to go out of business. ++++++++++++++++++ At the next meeting of the Barron Civic Club, to be held at the Service cafe club room Tuesday, March 24 (1942), F. L. Robbins, district soil conserva- tionist will deliver an illustrated lecture on soil conservation and contour farming. ++++++++++++++++++ In order to conserve tires, gas and oil, Barron merchants have announced that beginning April 1 (1942), there will be but one delivery of groceries or other commodities daily.
