One of the four men running for street commissioner may win the election but still lose the job. Voters will ballot on a referendum providing for appointment of the commissioner. If this referendum is approved the election of the street commissioner will be voided. The four candidates for the office are Dell Lovell, incumbent; Albert Kennedy, Herbert Achtenberg, and Herbert Fenner. Main interest in the election is centering on the race for mayor. Raymond E. Finsterwalder, 2nd ward alderman and president of the council, is opposed by Joseph M. Paul, school commissioner. Candidates for the post of 2nd ward alderman are Robert Marsh and Samuel O. Haugen. There are three candidates in the Sixth ward for alderman, O. K. Samdahl, incumbent; H. C. Ludvigson, and J. T. Jacobson. Leslie Smith, Eighth ward alderman, is opposed for reelection by John Wilson and Eugene Mattison. Five of the 10 offices are without opposition, F. E. McGough, 4th ward alder- man; Glenn D. Hartel, city treasurer; Gifford M. Bailey, 4th ward school commissioner; Walter Luddington, 7th ward school commissioner, and Raymond O. Johnson, 8th ward school commissioner. James T. Scolman, Barron county conservation warden, is making plans for the annual election of the committee to attend the Conservation congress to be held June 2 (1942) at the courthouse in Barron. Three committee members and two alternates will be chosen. --Taken from the Daily Telegram, Eau Claire, Eau Claire Co., WI, 4 April 1942.
