He retired from farming twenty-three years ago. He was born in Canada Nov. 20, 1841, and came here fifty-two years ago. His wife died forty years ago and was buried at Dobie. He never married again. He was well known and respected by all, one of the early pioneers of this section, a member of St. Joseph's church. Six children survive: Albert and Paul of this city, Adolph of Canada, Mrs. Paul Derouso and Mrs. Emma Robarge of thIs city, and Mrs. John Parnell of St. Paul. Also one brother, Philip Belland of Escanaba, Mich. Four of the children, Albert, Paul, Emma and Adolph, were born in Canada; the other two were born in this country. Deceased was one of a family of fifteen children, nine of whom are still living in Canada. After his death the remains were taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Derouso, until the time of the funeral. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church Saturday, Rev. A.J. Van Helden officiating, and the remains were interred at Dobie by the side of his wife, after another service there conducted by Rev. E. E. N. Savageau. Among those from out of town present at the funeral were his daughter, Mrs. John Parnell of St. Paul, and his brother, Philip, of Escanaba, Mich."
