Clute whose death occurred Friday afternoon, Aug. 12, 1910, was born in Madison Co., New York, on the 14th day of November, 1830. At the early age of 15 he came west and for a number of years lived in Jefferson Co., Wis. In 1855 he moved to Wilton, Monroe Co., where he was united in marriage to Miss Nancy E. Hotchkiss. From there they moved to Minnesota where in 1864 he enlisted and served his country to the end of the war, after which they came back to Wisconsin and settled in Barron Co. where he lived until his death. Mr. Clute was of a kind and gentle disposition. He was never heard to complain nor speak an unkind word of anyone and the latch string of his door always hung out for all his relatives and friends all of whom found a kind hospitality at the home of this good old man. And as he lived so he passed away. Without a word or a struggle he crossed the river of death, there to meet his final reward. He is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mrs. L.G. Smith, Mrs. David Edgett and Mrs. Ellison Corwall, eight grand children and two great grandchildren. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. Mills of Rice Lake spoke kind words of comfort at the house and read the final burial service at the grave in Cedar Lake cemetery where interment was made.
