Funeral services for Anselm "Sam" Couture, this city, were held Monday at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic church with the Rev. B. Niggemann officiating. Mr. Couture passed away at 10 a.m. Friday of heart trouble. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers, Clarence and Lloyd Burton, Du Wayne and Marvin Benson of Spooner, Alfonzo and Raymond Mitchell of Minneapolis. Mr. Couture was born May 4, 1854, in Canada. The family came to Rice Lake and lived here nine years before moving to what is now Sarona. He financed the building of Beaver Brook school which is still standing. The family then moved to a farm near Dobie and stayed five years before returning to Rice Lake where Mr. Couture entered partnership with Charles Mercier in a handle factory. He later bought a livery stable from M.G. Howard in Cameron and managed it three years before moving back to Rice Lake. He dealt in real estate until recent years. He was married Oct. 29, 1876, to Miss Delina Morneau, who preceded her husband in death. Mr. Couture is survived by four daughters, Mrs. John Mitchell (Alice) of Minneapolis; Mrs. Wm. Burton (Cordelia), Rice Lake; Mrs. Roy Benson (Calista), Spooner, and Albertine, this city, and two sons, Wilfrid and Archie, at home; four brothers, Louis of Duluth, Abraham of Denver, Arsene of Montreal and Edmund of Alta, and one sister, Leah, of Canada; 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Four daughters and three sons preceded their father. Those from a distance at the funeral included: Raymond Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Roman Green, Mr. and Mrs. Nap Couture, Dick Nafstade, all of Minneapolis; Olamine and Cemilda Couture of Duluth, and Lida and Yvonne Burton of Cumberland."
