Demers in Wed., Dec. 2, 1940 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron Co., WI) Joseph L. Demers Joseph L. Demers, 87 year old pioneer resident of Rice Lake, died at his home Sunday. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic church with the Rev. Bernard Niggemann officiating and burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery. J. P. Schneider & Son had charge of funeral arrangements. Mr. Demers was born May 11, 1853 in Quebec, Canada and came to Rice Lake Aug. 8, 1884. He married Elmira Gonyeau in Canada. She passed away June 3, 1901. On Aug. 12, 1902 he married Amardie Dargie, who passed away Oct. 19, 1929. Mr. Demers operated the boat livery for many years until he retired. He is survived by two sons, Archie, Rice Lake;and Arsen, Gordon, Wis.; two daughters, Sister M. Clarita, Manitowoc; and Mrs. Henry (Annie) Brow, Markville, Minn.; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Three children preceded him in death.
