Submitted by: Kent Robarge 03 August 2007 ************************************************************************ Obituary of Maurice Demers in Wed., Dec. 11, 1996 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron Co., WI) Maurcie Demers Maurice F. Demers, 76, of Rice Lake died Dec. 9 at Lakeview Medical Center. Funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rice Lake, with Rev. Kevin Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dobie, with military rites accorded by the Rice Lake American Legion. Mr. Demers was born May 12, 1920 to Delore and Delphine Demers in Rice Lake. He grew up in the Town of Oak Grove and attended school there. Mr. Demers also attended Catholic school in Dobie. As a young man, he had worked for the Civilian conservation Corps in Mellen and Hayward from 1937-40. After his discharge, he worked as a farmer's helper and also took courses under the Civil Defense Schooling for sheet metal work. On Jan. 12, 1942 he was drafted into the Army and served in the African, Middle Eastern and European theaters until his discharge in November 1945. Upon his return to Rice Lake, he had worked as a mechanic at the Chevrolet garage and later for Ed Field at Eddie's Auto Clinic until 1957, when he began at Ritchie's Auto Service in Barron for 3 years. From 1960-67 Mr. Demers was self-employed. In 1967 he returned to work as a mechanic for 3 years then managed the VFW club until 1973 and then worked for the Buckhorn Tavern until 1976. Mr. Demers was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Moose. He is survived by two sisters, Leah Haughian of Rice Lake and Edna Langman of Chetek.
