Demers Obituary in August 1, 1990 Rice Lake Chronotype "Funeral services were Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rice Lake for Patrick E. Demers, 63, of Rice Lake, who died Saturday at Lakeview Medical Center. Rev. James Powers officiated and burial followed in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Military rites were accorded by the Rice Lake American Legion. Mr. Demers was born Nov. 17, 1926 in Rice Lake, where he received his education. He was inducted into the Army in 1945, and went to work for the Lazy-A-Ranch in Rice Lake after his discharge. He later took a 2-year short course in farming at Madison. Mr. Demers then married Edith Ewald on March 27, 1950 in Rice Lake, and they moved to Illinois, where he worked as a farm laborer until 1956. They then moved back to Rice Lake, where he worked for the Lazy-A-Ranch again. In 1971, after attending vocational school in Rice Lake and receiving his degree in accounting, he went to work for Shadow Plastics in Rice Lake until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Demers was a member of Moose Lodge 402 in Rice Lake and held various offices, including secretary and governor of the lodge. He also received his fellowship degree in the Loyal Order of the Moose. Mr. Demers was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and Elks Lodge 1441 of Rice Lake. He also served as secretary of the bowling league in Rice Lake. He is survived by his wife, Edith; three sons, Richard of Leesburg, Va., and Daniel and Thomas, both of Rice Lake; five daughters, Barbara Ellingson of Bemidji, Minn., Peggy Thome, Ann Richter, and Sharon Clausen, all of Cameron, and Sandra Hildebrand of Agoura Hills, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; five brothers, Clarence, Donald, LeRoy, and Eugen "Joe" Demers, all of Rice Lake, and Elmer Demers of Indianapolis, Ind.; and by two sisters, Isabelle Bard of Duluth, Minn., and Leona Richter of Rice Lake."
