Submitted by: Kent Robarge 03 August 2007 ************************************************************************ Obituary of Zelfrida (Crotteau) Demers in Wednesday, March 28, 1956 Rice Lake Cronotype (Rice Lake, Barron Co., WI) Mrs. Mike DeMers Services Today Mrs. Michael DeMers, 75, a Rice Lake resident sicne the early logging days, died Monday morning at a local hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic church, with Rev. Raymond DeMers, the deceased's son, officiating, adn buril was made in the church cemetery. Mrs. DeMers, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Crotteau, was born Oct. 31, 1880 in Shell Brook, Canada, and came to the United States with her parents at the age of three. She was married at Our Lady of Lourdes church to Michael DeMers on Oct. 12, 1897. She was a long-time member of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters and had been active in the St. Joseph's Altar society and St. Joseph's Hospital guild. Survivors are her husband; six sons, Rev. Raymond DeMers, O.F. Cap., of Guam, Edward of Rice Lake, Florian of Milwaukee, Gilbert and William of Minneapolis, and Alfred of LaCrosse; six daughters, Sister Mary Rachel of Appleton, Sister Mary Reginald of Marquette, Mich., Mrs. Arthur Ryan and Mrs. Joseph Stoeberl of Rice Lake, Mrs. L.B. Erickson of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Mrs. William Roff, jr. of Almena; 32 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving area a sister, Mrs. Rosanna Demars of Cloquet, Minn., and a brother, Henry Crotteau of Rice Lake. One son, Lewis, preceded her in death in 1951.
