Submitted by: Barbara Horn 03 June 2004 ************************************************************************ from the November 25, 1953 issue of the Rice Lake Chronotype: Funeral services for Hans Gilbertson, 73, pioneer farmer in the Chetek-Dallas area, were held at the Maple Grove Lutheran Church Tuesday afternoon with Rev H S Froiland of Dallas officiating. Burial was made in Lakeview Cemetery at Chetek. Mr Gilbertson died Friday at a Rice Lake hospital after a long illness. Born in Norway May 20, 1880, he came to the United States at the age of six months with his parents. He was married about 47 years ago near Dallas to Clara Johnson, who survives him. The couple farmed in the town of Maple Grove for several years, and later farmed in the town of Chetek. Ill health forced Mr Gilbertson's retirement several years ago. Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Genard of Barron, John of Hillsdale and Clarence of Cumberland; two daughters, Mrs Mary Peterson and Mrs Helen Slayton of Hillsdale; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Oscar Saglin of Rice Lake, and a sister, Mrs Anna Nelson of Dallas. Four children preceded him in death. © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm
