Submitted by: Kent Robarge 03 August 2007 ************************************************************************ Obituary of Bridget (Dooher) Haughian in Wed, July 12, 1933 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron County, WI) Mrs. Patrick Haughian Leonard Haughian received a telegram Friday notifying him of the death of his mother, Mrs. Patrick Haughian, at her home in Herbert, Saskatchewan, Canada, who died of senility at the advanced age of 82 years. Mr. Haughian has had his share of troubles, two uncles, an aunt, his father-in-law, sister, and now his mother having died in the past year. Mrs. Haughian was born Bridget Clara Dooher in Perth, Ontario, Canada, January 21, 1851, where she spent her early life. After completing her education she entered Kingston hospital for training and in the late 70's came to this country, being one of the early settlers in what was known as the Irish settlement in the present town of Oak Grove, which was pioneered by the Lally's, Mullen's, Hanlon's, Kearney's, McGlade's, Ryan's, Byrnes's, Park's, McGeough's, Lappin's, Donnelly's, McLeod's, Russell's, McShane's, Dorcey's, Dooher's Mitchell's Kelley's McCann's, Lanahan's, McHugh's, Early's, Killeen's, Grady's, Haughian's, Kennedy's, McGinnis's and some others. She was married in 1880 to Patrick Haughian at Dobie and settled on a farm near there and later went to what was known as the Gratton P.O. on the old stage line between Rice Lake and Long Lake, where Mr. Haughian was postmaster and ran a store. They later moved to a farm near the Killeen neighborhood. In 1911 the family moved to Herbert, Canada, where they farmed until about 10 years ago when they moved into the city. Mrs. Haughian is survived by her husband and six children: Anthony of Herbert, Mathilda (Mrs. Hurd) of Seattle, Wash., Leonard of this city, Gerald of Spiritwood, Canada, Joseph and Michael of Regina, Sask., Canada. One daughter, Mary (Mrs. Palm) died July 5 at Pixley, Calif., and two other daughters died in infancy. Funeral services were held Monday at Herbert where interment took place. Mrs. Haughian was a woman highly respected by all who knew her, she was a good Christian and a kind and loving mother.
