Submitted by: Barbara Horn 03 June 2004 ************************************************************************ Barron Co News Shield, Barron, WI - Thursday 22 Oct 1953 page 1 col 4 - obituary Joseph A Hanson Succumbs Sunday Joseph A Hanson, 54, promenent Holstein breeder, died Sunday night at Lakeside hospital, Rice Lake, of a heart ailment. He had been ill for some time. Mr Hanson served as secretary of the Barron County Holstein Breeders Association for many years and at the time of death was vice president and a director of the state Holstein association. Long active in Holstein breeding his loss will be deeply felt by his fellow breeders, not only in Barron country, but in state and national Holstein circles. He operated a farm in the town of Sioux Creek and his herd of Holsteins always rated among the best in the nation, winning state and national awards time after time. As secretary of the county association he was prominent in all of the activities of the association and spent many hours doing the detail work that goes with the office of secretary in any group. He was secretary of the Dallas Lutheran church for a number of years and clerk of the Sioux Creek district for 15 years. He was also a director of the Dallas Telephone Co. Mr Hanson, the son of John and Clara Weeks Hanson, was born July 14, 1899, at Grand Meadow, Minn. He came to Barron county with his parents when he was three years old. On Nov 11, 1929 he was married to Mabel Johnson at the Maple Grove Lutheran church. He is survived by his wife; his mother of Chetek; five brothers, Arthur B of Baldwin, Halbert of Roulette, ND, Marvin of Marinette, Edwin of Stockton, Calif., and Freeman of Dallas, and two sisters, Mrs Ludvig Olson and Mrs Robert Owen of Chetek. Family funeral services will be held at 1 pm today (Thursday) at the Miller Funeral Home in Dallas and at 2 pm at the Dallas Lutheran church, with Rev Hj S Froiland officiating.
