Huiras in October 15, 1986 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron Co., WI) World War I Veteran John M. Huiras Dies John Huiras, 93, of Rt. 4, Rice Lake, died Saturday at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rice Lake with Fr. Gregory Hopefl officiating and burial following in the church cemetery. Full military honors were accorded by the Rice Lake American Legion Post. Mr. Huiras was born Jan. 18, 1893 at O'Dell, Ill., and moved at the age of 14 with his family to a farm in the Canton area. He served with the United States Army during World War I. On May 14, 1918, he married Melvina Crotteau at Strictland. In the fall of 1921, he and his wife moved to his family farm near Canton where they resided for a number of years. His wife died in 1966. He was a member of the Barron American Legion. He is survived by four sons, Paul of Bruce, Bill of Barron, Roy of Chetek and Elmer of Rice Lake; two daughters, Minnie Huiras and Gladys Halvorson of Rice Lake; 21 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Livingston of Rice Lake.
