Submitted by: Kent Robarge 03 August 2007 ************************************************************************ Obituary of Virginia (Gagner) King in Wed., June 15, 1983 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron Co., WI) Services Set For 102-Year-Old Virginia King Virginia King, believed to be Barron County's oldest resident, died at the age of 102 on Tuesday at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake. Rev. John Spanjers will officiate the funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Friday from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rice Lake and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jarocki Funeral Home in Rice Lake where there will be an 8 p.m. wake service. The former Virginia Gagner was born Jan. 3, 1881 on a farm east of Rice Lake and she resided in Barron County for the rest of her life. On Oct. 29, 1904, she married Leon King at Cumberland and they farmed in the area for 10 years. In 1914, they moved to Barron for a short time and then came to the Rice Lake area to farm. Mr. King died on April 6, 1919 and in September of that year, she and her children moved to her present home at 936 N. Main St., Rice Lake, where she engaged in domestic work. She is survived by two daughters, Sister Irenaeus King of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in Manitowoc and Elizabeth King of Rice Lake; one son, Delore of Rice Lake; and one brother, Alec Gonyer of Rodeo, Calif.
