Submitted by: Lorraine Hand 04 October 2004 ************************************************************************ Death of Mrs. Marsh Olive Cromwell was born in Wayne County, state of New York on the 4th day of March 1823 and died at the home of her son Harvey Marsh in the village of Dallas on the 15th of May 1912, age 89 years, 2 months and 11 days. When she was 17 years old she emigrated with her parents to Wisconsin, while this state was still a territory. At South Port, later called Kenosha and later moved to Racine. At the latter place in the year 1847, she was united in marriage to Samuel B. Marsh and to this union were born five children of which three together with the husband have gone to their reward. The family settled in northern part of Dunn County about thirty years ago and endured many privations only known to the early pioneers and all who know of her and her husband`s struggles for a start in life can best understand and appreciate the love and devotion of this good woman and her pure and unselfish friendliness to all her neighbors. Since the death of her husband, about 15 years ago, she has made her home with her son who has been for the past three years a resident of village. As the years came and went she gradually declined in strength and vigor but at times her mind was clear and her memory of events of pioneer days served her well and she frequently would quote words and passages from the Bible which have comforted many hearts. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church on Friday at 2 o`clock. Rev. G.O. Hunter officiating and interment made in the Pine Creek Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Harvey of Dallas, and one daughter, Mrs. Ada Squires who resides in Burnett County. -From the Chetek Alert, date unknown © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm
