Submitted by: Kent Robarge 03 August 2007 ************************************************************************ Obituary of George Mireau in Wed, Oct 3, 1973 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron County, WI) Former Assemblyman George Mireau Dies George Mireau, 85, long time chairman of the town of Rice Lake and former Barron county assemblyman, died Tuesday at Sacred Heart hospital in Eau Claire. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday from Our Savior's Lutheran church at Campia with Rev. Milton Johnson officiating and burial will be in Nora cemetery. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening at the Mason Funeral chapel. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Mireau was born in Oak Grove township Sept. 6, 1888, son of Mr. and Mrs. Aristide Mero. His father was first chairman of the present Rice Lake township. Mireau served three years on the town board and was elected chairman in 1935, serving until 1947, then returning in 1951 and holding the post until retiring in 1965, a total of 26 years. He served as chairman of the county board from 1945 to 1947 and was Barron county's representative in the Wisconsin assembly from 1958 to 1960, only the second Democrat ever elected from Barron county to that post. Mr. Mireau, who was a well known farmer in Rice Lake township, is survived by three sons, Lloyd and Lance of Rice Lake and Victor of Milford, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. Reva Gonyer of Rice Lake, Mrs. Maxine Yant of Rochester, Mich., and Mrs. Lois McKelvey of Mattoon, Ill.;25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Alice Svacina of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.
