Mireau in Wed., Dec. 26, 1957 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron Co., WI) County Native Dies in Montana Mose J. Mireau, 73, a native of Rice Lake who had been a longtime resident of Montana, died in a Miles City hospital Dec. 17 after a lengthy illness. His funeral with Masonic rites took place at Miles City last Thursday and burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens there. Mr. Mireau was a brother of George Mireau, chairman of the town of Rice Lake, who was with his brother when he died. He returned to Rice Lake Saturday night. Born Nov. 19, 1883 in Rice Lake, Mr. Mireau was a son of Aristide and Sarah LaBrie Mireau, pioneer settlers in the town of Doyle. He grew up in Rice Lake. In 1905 he went west to Ismay, Mont., then just opening up to cattle ranchers on a large scale. In 1908 he homesteaded near Ismay and had ranched there until his death, operating on about 25 sections of land. He was married in 1934 to Lulu Strait of Ismay. She survives as do three step-sons, Francis of Ekalaka, Mont., Marlon and James of Denver and three step-daughters, Mrs. Leota Fillmore and Mrs. Marjorie Kline of Ekalaka and Mrs. Mary Whitney of Ismay. Also surviving, in addition to his brother are two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Foster of Sheboygan, Wis., and Mrs. Alice Swacina of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., 20 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mr. Mireau returned to Rice Lake for visits periodically, the last time in 1953.
