Submitted by: Barbara Horn 03 June 2004 ************************************************************************ Barron County News Shield Barron, WI Thurs 26 Jan 1950 page 3 cols 3 & 4 Elling Nelson Elling Nelson, 88, pioneer Dallas resident, died Jan 18 at the home of his son, Elmer. Mr Nelson was born Aug 26, 1861, in Valders, Norway, the son of Nels and Anna Severud Nelson. He came to this country with his parents when he was 20, settling in Barron county. He was married to Clara Carlson and they were the parents of 11 children. Mrs Nelson and two children preceded him in death. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs Carl Nelson of Eagle Bend, Minn., Mrs John Radatz of Cameron, Mrs Drew Williams of Rochester, Minn., Mrs Robert Steurer of Barron, and Mrs Frank Cherney of Haugen; four sons, Christ of Hillsdale, Edward of Eau Claire, and Melvin and Elmer of Dallas; a sister, Mrs Peter Eckley of Dallas; two brothers, Martin of Dallas and Anton of Rice Lake; 23 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan 20 at the Miller Funeral Home and the Dallas Lutheran church, Rev Hj. Froiland officiating.
