Submitted by: Kent Robarge 03 August 2007 ************************************************************************ Obituary of Joseph Pastika in Thurs, April 6, 1922 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron Co., WI) Joseph Pastika Joseph Pastika, famed in this city for the past twenty-five years as a maker of good cigars, died on Saturday, April 1, of gangrene at the age of 75 years and 19 days. Mr. Pastika was born in Bohemia, March 12, 1847, and came to the United States in 1875. After working at his trade for a few years in New York City, Superior and Chippewa Falls, he located here and opened a shop of his own. "Joe's Best" has always been a popular cigar and good seller in this vicinity. Mr. Pastika is survived by his widow; three sons: Charles of Hayward, Joseph Jr. of Cloquet, Minn., and John; two daughters: Mrs. Antone Schramek (Mary) and Mrs. Frank Roberge (Anna) both of this city; and two step-sons, Frank Sasina and Antone Schramek, both of this city. Funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday, the Odd Fellows lodge, of which he was a member, having charge of the services. The Rev. George J. Holland of Chetek gave the funeral sermon, and interment was made at Nora cemetery. The bereaved have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sorrow.
