The victims - ninth and tenth highway fatalities of the year in Barron county - were Mrs. and Mrs. Kenneth Penzkover, who skidded from Highway 48 as they were en route home after attending a family wedding anniversary celebration earlier that evening at Cumberland. Funeral services for the couple were held Wednesday morning from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church at Dobie, with Rev. John Kauer officiating, and burial was made in the church cemetery. The children are staying temporarily at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Slayton, Jr. near Dobie - their maternal aunt and uncle. Final decisions on where they'll find a new home are to be considered at a conference Thursday between members of the parents' families and Mrs. Ellen Olson, county social service worker. The youngsters include Kathleen, 19; Alan, 17, and Alice, 16, both in the Rice Lake high school; Carol, 14, Rose, 13 and John, 12, junior high students; Bruce, 9, and Charles, 8, both attending school at Brill. The two youngest children, Mariann, 4, and Mark, 2, as well as a grandchild, Keith, 13 months old, had been at home. Robert Koepp, town of Cedar Lake chairman, announced Wednesday that plans are being made to raise a local fund for the benefit of the children. Cash contributions may be left at the Mikana store, he said, or persons who wish to aid may contact Mrs. Tom Howard. County traffic officers who investigated the accident Saturday night said that Penzkover's car apparently hit an icy spot on the road just west of the intersection of Highways 48 and 25, skidded down a 20 foot bank, and then rolled several times. Both occupants were thrown from the car, and Penzkover was apparently instantly killed. His wife also died at the scene, before help could be summoned. Mr. Penzkover, who was born Jan. 2, 1924 in Rice Lake, was a veteran of World War II, and had recently been employed in factory work at Waukesha, commuting home for the weekends. In addition to his children, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Penzkover of Rice Lake, and by three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bennett of Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Ruth Grant of San Francisco, and Mrs. Mary Fields of Cazenovia, Wis., and five brothers, Henry of Spooner, Vernon of Wisconsin Rapids, Donald of Milwaukee, Harold of Rice Lake and Richard of Detroit. Mrs. Penzkover, the former Annabelle Robarge, was born in Rice Lake July 3, 1928, and had spent her entire life in this area. She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Robarge and a grandmother, Mrs. Alice Labrie, in addition to six sisters, Mrs. Marcella Hoff of Minneapolis, Mrs. Maxine Slayton and Mrs. Janice Slayton, Ruth Ann, Jean and Veronica, all of Rice Lake, and by eight brothers, Francis in the armed forces in Viet Nam, Eugene, stationed in Thailand, Harvey of Petaluma, Calif., Harold, Herman and Richard of Waukesha, and Myrle and John of Rice Lake."
